Job Description

The Cashier's primary role is to assist customers in the check-out process. Main duties include ringing up sales, bagging items, honoring gift cards, collecting payment and giving appropriate change (when applicable).  Cashier’s may be responsible for counting the contents of the cash register drawer at the end of each shift, maintaining receipts, records and withdrawals. May be responsible for checking materials and supplies and reporting when stock is low.

Responsibilities

  1. Handle cash, credit or check transactions with customers

  2. Scan goods and collect payments

  3. Ensure pricing is correct

  4. Issue change, receipts, and refunds

  5. Redeem stamps/coupons

  6. Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change

  7. Make sales referrals, cross-sell products and introduce new ones

  8. Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information

  9. Bag items carefully

  10. Greet customers when entering or leaving establishment

  11. Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas

  12. Keep reports of transactions

  13. Answer customers' questions and involve a manager if answer doesn't solve the issue

  14. Bag, box or wrap packages

  15. Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction
